Outdoor Wednesday...Oak Glen style...

I took so many pictures when we went up to Oak Glen on Monday afternoon...I want to show you some more today. It was such a lovely afternoon...warm, but with a crispness in the air. Since the elevation is higher, it is cooler than at my house.
Oak Glen is a apple farming area, but since it also attracts many tourists on the weekend...they have many other crafty things up there too! This is some beautiful wood that will be made into benches, swings and other outdoor furniture.

Look at the old apple crates...I think these are wonderful...they say someone is working here...making a living from the apple orchards...

The axles and wheels of an old wagon....so pretty...what a lovely display of things past...

It is still quite warm in my area, so finding a little color changing right now is a treat!

Here's a view from the picnic area at Los Rios Rancho...my favorite place to go to up in Oak Glen. It is a certified organic orchard and has hiking trails all around it. We didn't hike on Monday, because we had the baby, but my son and I always hike around here in and amongst the apple trees. It smells so wonderful ...the mix of pine and apples!

Today we are off in a different direction....that's what I like about living where I do...Monday...20 minutes northeast and I'm in the foothills at an apple orchard...today...an hour drive southwest and I'm going to be at the ocean. We are driving down for a Fall visit to Rogers Gardens to see their Halloween and Fall displays. It is a pretty place so close to the ocean you can see the water in the distance...I am looking forward to spending the day in a much cooler area...it is supposed to be 95 here today...71 there...oh and for those of you unfamiliar with my neck of the woods...the October winds have kicked in...it will be windy on and off until about April! They call them Santa Anas...but since I live at the base of the Cajon Pass...the wind comes from Utah and gets sucked right through the pass and into my yard...not fun, but something we have learned to live with...you have snow...we have wind!
Make sure you drop by Susan for other outdoor Wednesday delights!

Enjoy Rogers Gardens! We used to live in Laguna Niguel and would love to go visit.
Sorry about the Santa Anas..don't miss those. I will remember to thank God again for the fog here :-)

I always kind of enjoyed the Santa Anas as long as there were no fires! It's feeling more like fall here, cool and crisp, with some sunny days, even. Cute Stella photos, sounds like a fun time.

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment...this is the first time I have posted on "Out Door Wednesday" and as I am an avid gardener it probably won't be the last. I really enjoyed reading some of your posts. I have been to Oak Glen during apple season and I also used to shop at the Fedco store in Pasadena. And, of course you are right about the rain...it was marvelous! People in Southern California really appreciate rain.(-: I will be back to see you...

In the past, apple farmers after harvesting their apples commercial, opens up their orchard for people to pick the residues. By our Easter, which is autumn, the apples have grown very big and sweet. That was the best experience I had. You have to be brave and not be afraid of height. They were every cheap too.
