As I have mentioned in my earlier posts...I have a huge apple tree. It has had so many apples on it that we have a hard time dealing with it. I give apples away to everyone I know and to those I don't know. I sometimes feel like going on a busy street corner with a few boxes of apples and a "FREE" sign! I have given boxes...and I do mean BIG boxes...to homeless shelters, food banks and bags and bags to neighbors and co-workers. But that is not what this story is really about today. This is about the big apple....
You see, ever since our kids were small, when we would pick apples, we would all try and find the biggest apple. It was a game to keep those boys working....yeah, we all have to find tricks to do that sometimes! This game stuck and when the kids next door would come over to help, they would always look for the BIG apple. We would line up everyone' s apples and measure to see who found the big one. Well, yesterday...the big one found me!! I was mowing under the tree and this huge apple hit me right on top of the head! Now that was painful....but...I found the BIG apple! I measured it and it is 12 inches around and 4 1/2 inches high! I t has a slight bruise on it due to hitting my head, but then I think I might have one too!!
And now starring in my back yard are just some of the Black Eyed Susans! I love these gals!
Speaking of Susans...go here for a peek at many other Outdoor Wednesday sites.
Enjoy the day...we're on a cooling trend. It is only going to be 91 today!

Wow! That's a big apple! Wish we lived nearby...I'd take some of those apples off your hands! Love the black eyed susans too! They're one of my favorites! :0)
luscious! i've never seen an apple tree in person, and i'm always amazed when i see it in photos. congrats for finding the BIG one.:p
Oh my goodness that is a really big apple. It would be nice to make a pie with since you wouldn't have to peel as many.
that isn't a big apple...its a HUGE apple!!! poor head!
HI Linda... I just love the idea of an apple tree.. we had one in the yard in Illinois and it also produced way too many.. I remember going out while the flowers were in bloom and knocked most of the flowers off with the hose at high pressure.. try it when they bloom again.. cut down a lot of growth. Now that I'm in Sofla we only have papayas and bananas....
Love your Black eyed susans also...
thanks so much for your visit to my blog today.. was nice of you!

Oh wow! That is a big apple! I also wish I lived close by as I'd welcome some free apples.
My sister lives in Arizona and when citrus fruits come in season many people leave bags of them out in front of their houses with a "free' sign :)
What an enormous apple. Beautiful to have such a big tree in your yard.
Hi ..
thanks for stopping by my place..
that is home in Florida..
but I actually LIVE in Denver CO..
and yes, I too have apples galore..
but they are from the neighbors trees..
on limbs overhanging my fence..
i love the blossoms..
but not the fallen messier ones..
and have eaten only very few..
this seems to be a bumper crop year!
warm sandy hugs..

I enjoyed your big apple story. That is a terrible way to get the big one. I wish I had some of your apples. They are a good fruit to have each day.
Sorry about your bump...but what a great apple! Love those Black Eyed Susans! Have a great day!

Wish I have apple tree in our backyard. We all love apples. That's a huge apple. Great photos
Lucky you! I would love to have some apples. We used to do that with the kids when we picked strawberries. A prize to the one who picked the biggest!
Your peaches look great too!
Hope your bruise is better!
I am envious of your apple tree and gorgeous garden!! I am passionate about gardening, but unfortunately I have no yard, thanks to the relocation!! It's nice that you try to give away the apples to ones in need.
I would love to have some of those apples! It was nice of you to give them to homeless shelters, and I'm sure they appreciate your generosity! God bless!
