Ok...is this normal??

Last year...maybe the year before...we planted this hydrangea plant...it was purple...we bought a pink one for the back yard...this one is on the side yard...now all the blooms are pink...
Do they change?? Is this normal?? I never had one of these before...but I have a lot of shade and thought it would be a nice addition to the yard...but we didn't want two pink ones...what do you think??
It's been getting pretty hot in my neck of the woods..we need to get out a lot earlier and finish our walks and gardening before noon...it's getting too hot to get much done outside after that...and dry...it's so dry...and I  am not a fan of watering...it takes so long...but it will be like this until fall so I guess I better just get used to it!
I am teaching a sewing class on Saturday...more of a demo class at the local fabric store in town...it's the first time I have done this...I'm sort of nervous...there's 10 people signed up as of last weekend...that's what makes me nervous...it's not so hard to talk to you all through the computer...but I'm a bit shy in public...I hope it goes well...I'm teaching how to make a simple zipper bag...I'm as ready as I can be...
Not much else happening here...just walking, sewing and gardening...
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!

Yes, they do change. They need acid soil. Miracle Grow has a plant food for them. My Dad put rusty nails in thye soil around the plant for color change. Good Luck.

Go online to check. I believe that you have to sweeten the soil with lime to make it turn blue. There is a whole website about these beautiful plants.

I do know that the color of the flowers depends on the acidity of the soil.

All of our pink hydrageas have turned blue thanks to our acid soil. I would guess that your soil is basic since you aren't surrounded by pine and cedar forests like we are. Ask your nursery person what you need to add to your soil to get your purple hydrangea back. BTW, you'll do fine and your students will love you!

Hey Linda! Hydrangeas are my favorite flower and my yard is full of them. And yes, they do change...they need acidic soil to bloom in blue, otherwise they will be mostly pink. But they stay blue where we have a very large pine tree because of the acidic soil. There are a lot of different ways to raise the acidity of your soil...just google it and you'll get lots of ideas!

Good luck with your class...you'll be great! Have fun.

XOXO,

Cyndi

Think the soil has something to do with the colors. You'll be great teaching your class! Just have fun!

Hydrangeas are lovely whatever the colour. It all has to do with the acid and the alkaline in the soil. You can get certain hydrangea food to change the colour.

Sounds like you all had a great time. I love the green vase the best. Looks like maybe it was handmade.

I often wonder why I buy what I do, but I love the hymnals as well.

Yep they change colors. It depends on your soil. I planted my first one this year & so far it's not doing so good. It looks like it was getting too much sun. I moved it Sunday. Probably not in time to save it but I'm trying my best. I think they're gorgeous!
