Dreaming of Autumn Colors...

Every year about this time I start thinking of going here...the one place near my home that I can see real Fall color...this is a stand of Aspens in the San Bernardino Mountains...I took these pictures a couple years ago when Don and I went up there. We never made it up last year...too many other things kept us away...but not this year...oh no...I'll be visiting here soon. In about 3 weeks these beauties will be showing some wonderful color and I plan on being up there to see it!
This is a short lived show too...it only lasts for about 2 weeks if we're lucky...
The thing of it is...we live so close... there should be no reason not to enjoy this every year...
There's something about Aspens that make me happy...it's so peaceful up here too...
It isn't one of those places that that many people know about... or visit...
It sits down in a mountain valley...by a creek...because Aspens love water...and the last 2 winters have been pretty wet and snowy up on the top of the mountains...so there should be lots of water in that little creek that waters them...which means...even more color! That is if the weather cooperates and it seems to be...the nights are getting cooler...they are even cooler up there...so, yes, as I decorate for Fall...I dream of this place...it is the closest thing to true Autumn color that this Southern California girl gets to see in her neck of the woods!
I thought I'd show you a couple bags I finished in the last week...I have more done...but I don't want to bore you with too many at once...I really like this striped fabric...it feels sort of like men's suiting...a grayish blue color too...perfect fabric to add whimsy to...
I made a few bags out of this fabric...all different...this is the last of it and so I added some little cardinals that I drew...I love redwork...it's fun and I like how this one came out...what do you think?
Today I will be sewing most of the day...trying to get things done for the craft show...I need to design and make a little apron to keep my phone, money and a few other things in while I work at the show...I have a design in my head...I just have to figure out how I want it to stay on...a clasp or a tie...then I will start the work on it. The way I work is probably not the way I should...I see things in my head...and I don't do much in the middle...it goes from my head to the fabric...the only thing I draw are the appliques...I've heard that's strange...but I've never followed the rules...how do you design?
Enjoy the day!!

You have been so busy making so many great things for this show. I'm so sorry I'm going to miss it. Can't wait to see you on Sunday! Lunch before BlogSugar?

Beautiful photos of the aspens....we don't have many of those in these parts - more birch - but I love their ghostly white trunks....Love the new bags - the blue one reminds me of ticking (a fabric near and dear to my heart) - and love the red one!! I would say you are very gifted to be able to visualize and translate as you do - me - I need a very detailed and explicit pattern - and then I usually read it too literally and end up frustrated!! Can't wait to see your apron! (Hope you'll show us!) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Hi,
I love heading up to the mountains near us this time of year also. Last year they almost looked as though they were on fire. They had vibrant colors of red and orange. I too love the golden Aspens. Your bags are darling! I love to do redwork. Just pulled out a cute Christmas stichery to do in redwork. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Have a great day!

How do I design? I don't, but I certainly do love seeing yours. I do that when I arrange flowers or make wreaths. I just sort of see it in my head and jump in. I think it turns out better than doing too much planning.

The tree photos are gorgeous and I can't wait to see some with the leaves turning. It can be stunning around here some years and others we sort of go from green to brown with no brilliance. So far, we are still green!

Hi sweetie, what a beautiful view of the Aspens, I can only imagine walking through these beautiful stately trees. When they all turn you must have a wonderful array of colors. hugs ~lynne~

When I visit my kid sin Colroado in the fall I love seeing all the golden aspens.

Your bags are always very pretty, Linda. I love all the details you give them.

Hello Linda, from this Linda in Scotland. I saw your comment above mine on 'It's a Small Town Life' and had to come and visit! And what a wonderful treat to find a post about Aspens. I've always dreamed of seeing these trees in 'Fall', ever since being smitten by scenes in classic films such as The Big Country and True Grit.

Linda, that is an absolutely gorgeous place! I love Aspens, too. And I love the fact that the place is almost like a secret garden where not too many people go. It's sad, but it's more likely to stay beautiful that way!

Your new bags are gorgeous! I really love that first one. And I relate to the way you design...that's how I do it, too! :o) Just another thing that you and I have in common! I can't wait to see photos and hear how things go at the craft fair!

XOXO,

Cyndi

Love that red bag, especially the redwork! Aspens are so pretty in the fall, aren't they?

I hope you get to visit your special place with the Aspens and fall color. Sometimes we take for granted something so close will always be there.
Your bags are great. Love the red one. I can't believe you just drew the cardinals. I can't draw worth a darn. What ever your method of coming up with a design is...it works. I saw an apron on a blog recently that I thought would work for shows...can't remember where. I'm sure yours will be better anyway.
