Summer gardening...

Summertime can be a hard time to garden...I live in a semi-arid climate...Inland Southern California...and it can get pretty hot here...lately it has been about normal...somewhere between 90 and 100 degrees the hot part of the day...yes...that's hot...but I guess it's what I'm used to living in...we have a lot of shade in our back yard...as you can see from the shadows...the huge apple tree shades one side of the yard and the birch trees the other...the plants I grow are ones that are natural to this area...or can tolerate this climate...boy do I sound like I know what I'm talking about or what...
Actually...it's been a lot of trial and error through out the years here...I've brought home plants from different areas...and they just die...so I stick to what works in our Summer heat...zinnias...they seem to thrive in this heat...and they come in so many styles and colors...
This is a favorite color we have in the yard...so soft...and the shape is more like a daisy...
Roses do very well here too...I love the miniature ones...I got this one years ago at traders Joes...I really don't know all that much about roses...I just buy what I like...I also read that roses should be grown in a rose garden...away from the other plants and flowers...I don't do that...I mix everything up...I'm crazy like that...
Black Eyed Susan's do very well for me...the color is amazing...
I have these beauties all over my yard...it all started from one cutting ...I just dig some of it up in the winter and transplant it somewhere else...some of these plants are almost as tall as me...but then that's not saying a whole lot...
Here's a flower that bloomed in the coolness of my sewing room...I just had to throw that in...I sew what inspires me...and flowers do that!!
Enjoy your day ...stay cool and find time to stop and enjoy what's growing in your yard!!

Your yard looks really pretty. I always forget about Zinnia's & they do good in the S. Louisiana heat too.

Gorgeous! Looks so much better than my brown, dusty crunchy yard.

What an adorable tote bag! Love it.
Your garden looks amazing for midsummer. Mine looks like a load of old poo. Except for the weeds -- they look GREAT.

Zinnias. Now why didn't I think of them?
Next year!
Thanks... Cass

I love your garden pics, especially the black eyed susans! I don't think they grow here, or at least I've never seen them. I used to have them in my garden in Delaware.

Great job on the bag!
