We have a new friend...

We get a lot of birds in our back yard...we have have a couple of Mourning Doves back there...but this little guy has been hanging out for a few days and is quite friendly...He is much smaller than the other doves...maybe half as big...
Don first noticed him on the back porch walking around...now here he was looking for something to eat...so Don went to put food in the feeder...he didn't even move...
Since these doves are ground feeders...Don attempted to give him some seed...
Don was trying to see if he would eat from his hand...almost!
We're not sure why he's alone...maybe his small size...but since he hangs out back here...we'll watch out for him...or her...don't really know...just know we have a new friend...
In other news...I want to thank everyone for well wishes on my illness...I am taking antibiotics now...the third day and they seem to be helping...I am no longer dizzy...my eye still leaks a lot, but it is not as yucky...I have a little more energy...not a lot...but I'll take what I can get! I hope to be back to normal soon...the doctor said rest...I am...only because I don't have the energy NOT too.
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!

More San Francisco...

San Francisco is a very hilly town...with many old famous places...
I wonder if everyone has an automatic here...it would be very hard to drive my stick shift through this town!
One of the most famous hilly streets is Lombard Street...we had to go see this!
It was hard to get a good picture...you can't see the whole street...so curvy...and so many people wanting to get their own pictures....
This is from the top...you can see the Bay Bridge in the back ground...
Driving around this town was confusing...even with GPS on my phone we managed to drive in circles...
 Such tall buildings...and narrow streets...
But then I come from a town that's tallest building is 6 floors! We managed to make it our=t of there after about 30 minutes of driving round and round...
We got back in plenty of time to get ready for the wedding that evening...we clean up pretty nicely I think!
After we got home from our big weekend...I got sick...do I mean sick...the kind of sick that keeps you in bed for days and in your pajamas for days after that! It started with a cough...I still have that...then into my ears and now my eyes...and in between a fever for 3 days...right now it has settled in my right eye...goop is running out of it and I can't see very well...I have a doctor's appointment today to get it checked...I think I may have pink eye...it hasn't been fun...I can tell you that! The funny thing is...while I lay in bed...or on the couch in my back bedroom...wondering when is this going to end...in comes Don...with a smile on his face. He has been there every minute of this for me...some women want jewels and flowers...I'll take the extra box of Kleenex and the home made shake he made me to feel better!
Until next time...have a great day!!!

Fisherman's Wharf...

We got up early and drove into San Francisco...our hotel was about 11 miles south of the city...this is the Bay Bridge....
The kids were excited to finally get to Pier 39...Fisherman's wharf!
Lots of happenings all around the Bay...it's so huge...with so many giant ships like this it needs to be!
We walked all around Fisherman's wharf...some places it was so cold and windy...so glad I brought my sweater!
Lots of interesting things to see down here....
I found some beauty here...there were planters everywhere...I like that!
 The foxgloves were huge!
 We found a small farmer's market too...yum!
Had to get some of these too...my favorite!!
There were lots of smaller boats to look at too...
And lots of sun bathers! These wooden islands were made for the sea lions...I think they approve!
The Golden Gate Bridge in the fog...
Alcatraz Island off across the  water....
Of course we had to stop in the Boudini Bakery...sour dough bread from here is wonderful...we got a few loaves to bring home...they make the best grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches...Yum!!
How would you like a loaf of bread like this! I think it would make a perfect gift to bring to a dinner party!
We enjoyed the morning...time to go see if we can find Lombard Street and the Presidio...
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!

Road trip...

We went on a road trip last week...through the middle of California...headed north...
It's pretty this time of year...still green...the hot Summer heat hasn't dried things up yet...
Lots of farm land in the middle of our state...fun to try and figure out what's growing as we drive along...
Lots of grapes here...some for eating...some for wine...
We finally arrived...the concrete jungle...that's what my son, Joseph calls it...others call it...The City...
San Francisco...here we are! We have many things planned for a short trip...a wedding...some site seeing...eating sour dough bread bowls on Pier 39...
I'll show you more of our trip later...we had a great time on this road trip...and even San Francisco offered us some nice weather...that's rare!!
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!

Finally....

Look!! We finally got some much needed rain!! This may not be a big deal to most of you...but here...rain is what we have been needing...it may not be a huge storm...but with 3 big fires already burning here in Southern California...and fire season is months away...we need all the wet stuff we can get!
March and April are our rainy time and we didn't get any...and I mean ANY...it was dry and windy...humidity last week here was below 10%...
It's hard to take pictures of rain...it isn't coming down hard...but steady right now...I don't even mind that I have to go to school this afternoon in the wet stuff...I'm just so happy its here!! The temperature has dropped too...I will have to wear long pants today...its about 65 in my back yard right now...perfect!!
I am sure the fire fighters are very relieved right now...this help from above is very welcome! I read today that rain this time of year is God's way of Spring cleaning...I like that!!
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!

Every kitchen needs one...

 If you grow this....
Or this...or both...or you just get them from the farmer's market or store...
The you really need one of these!
This is something we can't live without in our kitchen...not only does it dry your lettuce and other veggies really well...it helps...well...for those of you who are a bit squimish...skip this...find the worms you missed when you first washed you lettuce...they can hide really well...after a good spin...they are so dizzy...you can find one at the bottom...it happens...found one today!
Anyway...I love salad...and I love to put all sorts of things on my salad...my favorite are pepitas...oh yum! I get these at the farmer's market...I prefer the raw ones...but they sell them roasted too!
Oh dried fruit is great on salads too...this is mango...and its slightly sugared...another farmer's market find...wonderful!
You need some crunch...Chinese noodles are my favorite...except maybe home made croutons...
I add all sorts of veggies...
Now enjoy! This is my lunch most days...a nice big bowl of salad...I make my dressing very light...today I added a little fresh pineapple to it...yummy!
Until next time...enjoy your day!!!
